The children in Yantaló confused me for a caucasian girl when in fact I am, like them, latina. In their words, mestiza.
Nonetheless, it brightened my day to hear them scream my name from across the town square: "wendy! wendy!" in their high pitched voices. I only hope they pay this much attention in class as they did to me and my heft.
The first day I visited the local school I was swamped by children wanting me to take their photo then reviewing them on the back of my camera. It was fun until I couldn't breath anymore fresh air. It was the same with Josh. Consequently with so much love from children, Josh and I discussed having our own someday. :)
